Retinoblastoma is the most common ocular cancer in children under 3 years of age. Every year 8,000 new cases of retinoblastoma are diagnosed in the world. 3,000 of those cases are children who will not survive.
In developing countries, a high percentage of children do not survive. In developed countries with advanced resources for the detection and monitoring of those affected, the percentage of survival is high, although sometimes children have to undergo treatments that can be aggressive, and, in some cases, end up leading to the loss of the affected eye or eyes (eye enucleation).
The purpose of the La Nineta dels Ulls Foundation and everyone who wants to work with us is to help in the research and knowledge of this disease and its treatments, so as to be able to change those numbers and improve the detection, the treatment and the quality of life of those affected by retinoblastoma.
