Fundació La Nineta dels Ulls took part in the AYA Conference 2026, organised by the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Hospital and the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS). The event provided a space for discussion and reflection on the challenges faced by adolescents and young adults after completing cancer treatment.
The conference brought together professionals and organisations to share experiences and reflect on the challenges that arise during this stage, when young people have to resume their personal, educational, professional and social projects after going through cancer. Beyond medical follow-up, this period requires support that is adapted to their needs and expectations.
At 4:30 p.m., the Foundation took part in the session “Foundations and Societies: The Art of Supporting Expectations, Needs and Learning”, sharing our experience and the perspective of families and young people affected by retinoblastoma.
Taking part in these spaces allows us to continue bringing the perspectives of patients and families into discussions about cancer care and to highlight the importance of supporting adolescents and young adults beyond treatment, taking into account their needs, concerns and life plans.
At the Foundation, we continue to promote partnerships and take part in dialogue spaces that help us move towards a model of care and support that is increasingly focused on people and their needs.
